The County of Northumberland is widely known for its varied and spectacular landscape.
The Heritage coast with its sweeping sands and mudflats are home to thousands of wild birds and it is along this coastline that Nature Reserves are located in order to observe the bird population.
Locations on the Coast:-
Druridge Bay Hauxley Nature Reserve -Several hides and manned Visitor Centre. Druridge Bay Country Park - good for wintering wildfowl. East Chevington - good record for attracting unusual species, several hides available. Druridge Pools Cresswell Pond
Coquet Estuary and Coquet Island
The Estuary is a short 5 minute drive to the Parking Area in Warkworth dunes and then a 10 minute walk.
Trips can be made to Coquet Island from Amble in the summer but landing on the island is not allowed. It is a breeding ground for Roseate Terns.
Alnmouth
Large numbers of waders winter on Aln Estuary. Park near Bridge over river into Alnmouth and walk along ‘Lovers Walk’.
Low Newton and Beadnell Bay
Nature Reserve at Newton Pool which can be good for migrant waders, hides have disabled access.
Farne Islands
Internationally famous for breeding seabirds. Regular boat trips can be booked at Seahouses. Peak activity here is in June.

Holy Island and Lindisfarne Nature Reserve
Good birdwatching during times of migration and is renown for its large flocks of wintering geese.
